Daria murder case: Family refuses autopsy

Times News NetworkChandigarh: Family of the 20-year-old youth, who was stabbed to death in Daria, has refused his postmortem examination until the accused were arrested.On Wednesday, Suraj’s family members and local residents reached the Daria police post and raised slogans against the police. The family alleged that police failed to apprehend the killers even 24 hours after the crime had been committed.Police post in-charge Ravdeep tried to pacify the crowd and repeatedly assured them that the accused would be arrested soon.Deceased’ ‘s father Mukesh claimed that his son was returning home after finishing his job shift as usual when five youths and attacked him with sharp -edged weapons. Mukesh said the family still could not understand why Suraj was murdered.However, police said their preliminary investigation suggested an old rivalry behind the incident.Suraj’ ‘s mother has demanded that the killers should be given death penalty.According to the family, Suraj worked as a helper in a theatre company in Chandigarh. They said his mother had been unwell for a long time, forcing Suraj to start working at a young age to support the family.A 55-second video of the incident has surfaced, in which the five attackers were seen assaulting Suraj with a sharp-edged weapon , kicking and punching him.The video footage shows the attackers grabbing Suraj by his hair and stabbing him in the chest, back and stomach. Some attackers were seen jumping in the air and kicking him in the face. Suraj’ ‘s shirt was torn from the back and his entire body was drenched in blood.He was seen pleading with the attackers to let him go, but the attackers continued stabbing him without stopping.Finally, Suraj somehow managed to free himself and ran. According to eyewitnesses, he collapsed after walking just a few steps, after which the attackers stabbed him again.
